H&QAP recognized the emerging potential of Japanese wireless technology innovation through our long-standing relationship with Access.
We had been working with the company for years before a first private equity investment was even required, helping them build out a technology platform that would one day become the exclusive embedded software provider to Japan’s NTT DoCoMo.
H&QAP’s first investment in Japan, Access, was listed on the local stock exchange in early 2001, making H&Q Asia Pacific the first foreign VC to see a domestic IPO of a local technology company.
By successfully leveraging its global network to help build Access into a multinational wireless leader, H&QAP realized a return of 8.4 times its original invested capital.
